Dates

Keep dates and times clear and consistent to avoid confusion—especially in an airline setting where timing is everything. This clarity helps travelers plan better, reduces mistakes, and ensures smooth coordination across global operations.

Flight date and time

When referring to a flight or a trip, the time should follow the date. Include the day of the week when possible.

  • Best: Tuesday July 18, 2023, 8:00 a.m. (08:00 hr.)
  • Good: Tue. Jul. 18, 2023, 8:00 a.m. (08:00 hr.)
  • Ok: Jul. 18, 2023, 8:00 a.m. (08:00 hr.)

Dates

All 12 months of the year and days of the week are always spelled in full.

  • January 10, 2010
  • Monday January 10, 2010

When space is critical in a user interface, you can abbreviate the date. Add a period after the day of the week and/or the month.

  • Jan. 10
  • Jan. 10, 2010
  • Mon. Jan. 10

Don't

  • Do not add “th” or “st” to dates.
  • Do not use an apostrophe when referring to plurals of years and other numbers: the 1980s.
  • If you abbreviate a decade, the apostrophe goes in the front and leans to the right: ’80s.

Times

Use a.m. and p.m. (include periods) to designate day or night.

Do

  • 8:00 a.m.
  • 08:00 a.m.

Don't

  • 8:00 am
  • 8 a.m.
