Tier Program

These guidelines are a reference for UX Writers, Web Writers and Content strategists writing for the WestJet. It helps writers create clear and consistent content across teams and channels. In some instances, you can copy and paste directly from the guidelines. In others, you can use this as a reference for the correct language and terms.

Tiers

The WestJet Rewards program has four different tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Teal.

All members are Teal until they reach Silver, Gold or Platinum. Teal is a tier but is not status. The term “status” is reserved for members who have reached Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Tier status is a generic way of referring to what tier a rewards member has achieved.

‘Member’ is always lowercase unless it is at the start of a sentence.

Teal, Silver, Gold and Platinum are always capitalized.

Refers to Platinum, Gold and Silver.

When using as a noun, do not include a hyphen.

Seat selection voucher (includes Extended Comfort) Gold Award

Complimentary seat selection for a member or a guest before check-in for any seat—Standard, Extended Comfort or Exit Row—within the Economy cabin where a seat selection fee applies.

Seat selection voucher (Standard) Silver Award

Complimentary seat selection for a member or a guest before check-in for a Standard seat within the Economy cabin where a seat selection fee applies. Not valid for Extended Comfort or Exit Row.

Complimentary upgrades at the gate

With the purchase of eligible fares, Platinum, Gold and Silver members may be eligible for complimentary upgrades to Premium or Extended Comfort at the departure gate on most WestJet flights (excluding flights to/from Europe and Asia). When available, upgrades will be automatically given in priority order by tier, starting with Platinum, followed by Gold and Silver.

Complimentary upgrades prior to check-in

With the purchase of eligible fares, Platinum, Gold and Silver members may be eligible for complimentary upgrades to Premium prior to check-in on most WestJet flights (excluding flights to/from Europe and Asia). When seats for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in are made available to WestJet Rewards, they will be automatically given in priority order by tier, starting with Platinum, followed by Gold and Silver.

Early access to purchase an upgrade

Early access to purchase an upgrade to Premium or Business is available to Gold members between 48 and 24 hours before departure.
Early access to purchase an upgrade to Premium or Business is available to Platinum members between 48 and 24 hours before departure.

Flight benefits

Flight benefits become available to members after achieving certain levels of tier qualifying spend. These may include the waiving of fees for certain WestJet products and services and access to certain airport benefits when travelling on WestJet-marketed and operated flights.

Tier benefits

Benefits available to Silver, Gold or Platinum members, including increased earn rates and flight benefits. Earn rates and flight benefits vary by tier.  

First and second checked bags free

Silver members can travel comfortably with free first and second checked bags. This benefit applies to the member and up to eight additional guests travelling on the same reservation.  
Gold members can travel comfortably with free first and second checked bags. This benefit applies to the member and up to eight additional guests travelling on the same reservation.  

First, second and third checked bags free

Platinum members can travel comfortably with free first, second and third checked bags. This benefit applies to the member and up to eight additional guests travelling on the same reservation.  

Unlimited airport lounge access with family privileges

Unlimited lounge access is awarded to Gold and Platinum members and is valid for the member and up to five immediate family members (spouse or common-law partner and dependent children up to 24 years of age) when accompanied by the member and taking a same-day WestJet flight from the same airport.

Guest lounge vouchers

Guest vouchers are awarded to Gold and Platinum members and may be used for additional companions when accompanied by the member and taking a same-day WestJet flight from the same airport or, when a voucher is transferred, by the recipient of the voucher whether travelling with or without the member.

Lounge vouchers

Each voucher can be used for entry into an airport lounge for the member or additional guests/companions when accompanied by the member and taking a same-day WestJet flight from the same airport.

Change

As a Platinum [Gold] member you may request a same-day change to your itinerary starting at 24 hours before departure and be confirmed on an earlier or later flight on the same calendar day as your original departure at no extra charge, except when travelling on an UltraBasic fare.

Parental leave

If you have lost or are at risk of losing your Silver, Gold or Platinum tier status due to a reduction in travel resulting from a parental leave, you may request a reinstatement or extension of your tier status and benefits when you return to work.

Priority baggage

With priority baggage your bags will be tagged so they are among the first to arrive on the carousel when you reach your destination.

Priority boarding (Zone 1 and 2)

With priority boarding you’ll be one of the first guests on the aircraft, providing you with extra time to comfortably settle into your seat.

Priority check-in

Whether you require full-serve check-i0-n, need assistance to change a booking, or are simply dropping off a bag, you'll enjoy the convenience of our priority check-in line.

Priority security screening (at select airports)

Move through security with ease. Use the priority line at available airports to get through security swiftly and to your gate on time.

Priority support number

Priority support number for Platinum is available through the WestJet app and on the WestJet website when signed into your account.
Priority support number for Gold is available through the WestJet app and on the WestJet website when signed into your account.
