Keep dates and times clear and consistent to avoid confusion—especially in an airline setting where timing is everything. This clarity helps travelers plan better, reduces mistakes, and ensures smooth coordination across global operations.

Overview

Use a.m. and p.m. (include periods) to designate day or night.

Do

  • 8:00 a.m.
  • 08:00 a.m.

Don't

  • 8:00 am
  • 8 a.m.

When space permits, include the time zone.

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MT

Time range

When expressing a time range, be consistent. If both the start time and end time conclude in the a.m. or p.m., only one identifier is required on the second time. Express a range with either ‘–’ or ‘to’.

Do

  • 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.
  • 4:30 – 9:00 p.m.
  • 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Don't

  • 4:30 to 9 p.m.
  • 4:30 and 9:00 p.m.
  • 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Do not use noon, midnight or midnite.

24-hour clock

Format: 24:00. Always include hr. or hrs.

  • 01:23 hr.
  • 23:00 – 23:55 hrs.

Length of time

When expressing a length of time, use the full word (hours or minutes) when space permits.  If space is limited, you can use the abbreviation.
